HackensackHackensack boasts a beautiful lakeside park, including a beach, docks, tennis courts, and a large playground. Stop in the Chamber of Commerce as you pass through the park and you'll see that the energy in Hackensack is never-ending! The townspeople work hard to offer great shops, bustling businesses, and a plethora of activities for young and old alike. Kids will love the weekly fishing tournaments and people of all ages will be enthralled by the annual chainsaw sculpting contest and festivities…and so much more! This is also the home of Paul Bunyan's sweetheart, Lucette, and she watches over this busy little town. Sweetheart Days, in her honor, take place every July featuring a golf tournament, parade, and many activities for the entire family. The event caps off the 4th of July festivities that take place at the City Park and Dock, making a great long weekend to visit this picturesque little town that brings to mind the famous Norman Rockwell paintings.
Fall Has It All is an important time for Hackensack as this is when the Annual Chainsaw Sculpting Contest takes place, drawing the best sculptors in the country to compete for a $10,000 prize. Works are on display, but the best part of the weekend is watching the actual sculpting contest and seeing a great big log turn into a fabulous piece of art! Kids love this town, as every Tuesday there is a fishing contest off City Dock. Kids bring a life jacket and fishing pole and the rest is provided for them. Great prizes and great fun for the whole family. And because Walker can't have all the winter fun, Hackensack is home to the original Snow Flake Queen Contest. This is a beauty and talent contest like no other! All the entrants wear dresses, heels, and makeup, as one would expect, but the unexpected part is that every contestant is a man!!! Hilarity abounds as the men do their best to dance, sing, and strut for the coveted title of Snow Flake Queen. And if their antics aren't enough to amuse you, the pageant names they create for themselves will definitely give you a chuckle. Hackensack is a shining star in the field of small towns in northern Minnesota. An appealing community to be a part of, residents here can relax and enjoy all it has to offer, or get involved and see it become even better. |
